The C-130 Hercules has been in continuous production longer than any other military aircraft in history. It fights fires, hauls cargo, refuels jets, and has landed on aircraft carriers. The Herc does everything.

Fun fact

A C-130 once landed and took off from the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal without using arresting gear or a catapult — the largest aircraft to ever do so.

How to spot one

Four turboprops, high wing, rear cargo ramp. The most successful military transport ever. Can land almost anywhere.

Crews call it
The Herk
Sounds like
Four turboprops — a deep, rumbling drone that you feel in your bones. The classic military transport sound.

One might be overhead right now.
