The Sabre was the United States' first swept-wing fighter, shaped by aerodynamics research captured from Germany and proven against the MiG-15 over Korea's MiG Alley in the first jet-versus-jet battles. It became the most-produced Western jet fighter ever — 9,860 built across five countries. A silver Sabre at an airshow is the first jet age, still alive.

Fun fact

9,860 Sabres were built in the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan and Italy — the most-produced Western jet fighter in history.

How to spot one

Swept wings, a round nose intake like an open mouth, and a bubble canopy. Most survivors wear polished silver, many with yellow Korean War ID bands.
