Britain and France built the Jaguar together for low-level strike, and it was very good at it: fast on the deck, tough, and small enough to hide in a valley. The RAF flew it from the Cold War through the 1991 Gulf War to 2007, and France retired it in 2005. India never stopped. Its Jaguars have been rebuilt with new avionics and are still on the front line, the last operational Jaguars in the world.

Fun fact

Jaguars were tested taking off from a stretch of French motorway and from an unprepared grass strip to prove they could operate after their airfields were bombed.

How to spot one

A long, slim fuselage with a high shoulder wing, tall landing gear with twin wheels on each leg, and a pointed nose. The engines sit side by side in the tail under a single fin.

Sounds like
Two small Adours with a hard, buzzing roar at low level

One might be overhead right now.
