Take the Jet Provost, add a more powerful Viper, strengthen the wings, hang eight hardpoints under them and you have the Strikemaster, the cheapest serious attack jet of its era. Oman flew it in the Dhofar war, Ecuador flew it against Peru, and New Zealand and Saudi Arabia used it to train. Around 20 fly in private hands today, and they are among the most capable jets a civilian can own.

Fun fact

Omani Strikemasters flew combat missions for most of the 1970s with pilots sitting side by side, an arrangement designed for teaching rather than fighting.

How to spot one

A Jet Provost with pylons: look for the hardpoints under each wing and the bigger tip tanks. Many still wear desert camouflage from Oman or Saudi service.

Sounds like
A harder-edged Viper than the Jet Provost, with a real bark on takeoff

One might be overhead right now.
