The IAI 1124 Westwind started as a Rockwell Jet Commander, got bought by Israel Aircraft Industries, and came back meaner. Longer range, better engines, and a reputation for toughness that made it a favorite of military operators and charter companies who needed a jet that could take a beating and keep flying.
Fun fact
The Westwind served as the basis for the Israeli Air Force's maritime patrol aircraft — the same airframe that flies executives also hunted submarines.
How to spot one
Israeli-built business jet. Tip tanks on wings. T-tail. Low wing. Getting very rare.
Crews call it
The Westwind
Sounds like
TFE731 — smooth Honeywell turbofan, same as many Learjets
One might be overhead right now.
