The story
Take the Jet Provost, add a more powerful Viper, strengthen the wings, hang four hardpoints under them and you have the Strikemaster, a trainer built to fight. Oman flew it in the Dhofar war, Ecuador flew it against Peru in 1995, and New Zealand and Saudi Arabia used it too. A handful still fly in private hands.
Omani Strikemasters flew close air support through the Dhofar war with their pilots sitting side by side, an arrangement designed for teaching rather than fighting.
