The story
When Boeing acquired McDonnell Douglas in 1997, the MD-95 was already in development, so Boeing renamed it the 717 and built 156 of them. Twin Rolls-Royce engines mounted on the rear, T-tail, the unmistakable DC-9 family silhouette. Delta flies the largest fleet.
The 156th and final 717 rolled off the Long Beach line in April 2006 for AirTran, which had also been its launch customer.
