The story
The Boeing 747 Dreamlifter is a 747-400 with a massively swollen fuselage, built to haul 787 Dreamliner sections between factories in Japan, Italy, and the United States. The entire tail swings open sideways to load cargo. Only four exist — all converted from passenger 747s — and Atlas Air flies them on Boeing's behalf.
The Dreamlifter cut the trip for 787 wings from Japan to the US from about 30 days by sea to just over eight hours.
