The story
The Brasilia first flew in July 1983 and entered service with Atlantic Southeast Airlines in October 1985. It is a 30-seat commuter with a round fuselage, low straight wing, T-tail and two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW118 turboprops, and it sold especially well to U.S. regional airlines; SkyWest alone flew more than 60 at one point. About 350 were built before production ended in 2001, and Embraer has not built a turboprop airliner since.
Embraer first planned it as a simple stretch of the EMB 121 Xingu business turboprop. After feedback from airlines it was redesigned in 1979, and the Brasilia ended up sharing almost no parts with the Xingu.
