The story
The Hawker 4000 was the first jet in its class with a carbon-composite fuselage. Raytheon bet big on it: a wide, light composite cabin, a metal wing and transcontinental range. Certification dragged on for years, and only 73 were built before production ended in 2013.
The fuselage is carbon composite but the wing is mostly metal, a mix that saved weight where it mattered without reinventing the whole airplane.
