The story
The F-15 Eagle has one of the best air combat records of any fighter: more than 100 air-to-air victories and no losses in air-to-air combat. It's big, fast and powerful, and although it was designed in the 1970s, new Advanced Eagles like the F-15EX are still coming off the line. Hundreds fly, but they rarely broadcast their position. If one is on your screen, look up.
An F-15 can climb to 30,000 feet in about a minute. At some speeds its two engines push harder than the jet weighs, so it can accelerate going straight up.
