The story
The F-100 followed the F-86 Sabre and was the first of the Century Series, the first US Air Force fighter that could break the sound barrier straight and level. It was a workhorse of the early Vietnam air war and carried the Thunderbirds for 13 seasons. The two-seat F-100F is the version that survives in the air, flown at airshows by a very small number of operators.
F-100s flew over 360,000 combat sorties in Vietnam, more than the 15,000 P-51 Mustangs managed in the whole of the Second World War.
