The story
The Sabre was the United States' first swept-wing fighter, shaped by aerodynamics research captured from Germany and proven against the MiG-15 over Korea's MiG Alley in the first jet-versus-jet battles. It became the most-produced Western jet fighter ever — 9,860 built across five countries. A silver Sabre at an airshow is the first jet age, still alive.
On 15 September 1948 an F-86A set a world speed record of 671 mph at Muroc Dry Lake, the base now called Edwards.
