Sun Country Airlines
Minnesota's scrappy hometown airline that reinvented itself as a hybrid carrier. Part scheduled service, part charter, part Amazon cargo hauler. They'll fly snowbirds to Florida in winter and haul packages the rest of the year.
Bought by Allegiant in May 2026; the two still fly separately for now.
Sun Country's first revenue flight, on 20 January 1983, ran from Sioux Falls to Las Vegas in a single Boeing 727 leased from Air Florida. Many of its first employees came from Braniff, which had shut down the year before.
