The story
Before the 767, crossing the Atlantic mostly meant three or four engines. Boeing proved twins could do it safely, and aviation changed forever. Plenty still carry passengers, many more haul freight, and Boeing still builds the freighter and the KC-46 tanker.
In 1985 the 767 became the first jet cleared by the FAA for 120-minute ETOPS, the rule that opened the North Atlantic to twinjets and paved the way for the 777 and 787.
