The story
The AA-5 started life as the American Aviation Traveler, a four-seat stretch of the two-seat AA-1 Yankee. Grumman bought the company and kept building it as the Traveler, Cheetah and Tiger, and the line passed through four more owners before the last Tigers rolled out in 2006. Through every name change it stayed the same thing: a slick low-wing four-seater with a sliding canopy and a bonded, rivet-free airframe.
Two-thirds of the AA-5's parts are shared with the two-seat AA-1 Yankee, which is how American Aviation turned a two-seater into a four-seater so quickly.
