The story
Mooney made its name on speed from efficiency rather than horsepower: a small, slippery cabin, tight cowling and retractable gear. More than 11,000 M20s have been built since 1955, from wooden-winged originals to the 200 hp M20J 201.
The Mooney 201 was named for its advertised 201 mph top speed, from a 200 hp engine.
