The story
Anka is Turkish Aerospace's medium-altitude, long-endurance drone, named for the phoenix of Turkish legend. It first flew in 2010, and the Anka-S version adds a satellite link so its ground crew can fly it far beyond radio range. Malaysia bought three Anka-S for maritime patrol. They were handed over at Labuan in June 2026 and fly with the Royal Malaysian Air Force's No. 11 Squadron, watching the waters off Sabah and Sarawak for smugglers and illegal fishing.
Malaysia's Ankas can stay up for more than 24 hours at altitudes up to 30,000 feet.
