How it works

Every plane is a bogey until you know what it is

Bogey turns the sky into a collection. Something flies over, you find it on the live map, tap it, and its card flips: what it is, who flies it and where it’s going. Catch it and it’s yours.

Is it free? Yes. The whole game is free, with no ads. Pro is optional. What’s free and what Pro adds ↓

The catch

See it. Tap it. Keep it.

  1. 01
    See it.

Bogey shows every aircraft around you on a live map at its real position, from the radio signal it broadcasts (ADS-B). Each one wears its rarity color, so the rare ones stand out.

  2. 02
    Tap it.

The card flips: the aircraft type, the airline or operator, the route, a photo, and a few lines about it written by people who love planes. Military jets, helicopters, airliners and special paint jobs each have their own story.

  3. 03
    Keep it.

Catch it and it lands in your hangar, worth points by rarity. Every type you’ve never caught before pays the most.

Rarity

Not every plane is worth the same

Points for the first catch of each type.

COMMON25 ptsEveryday traffic. Every new type still counts.e.g. Boeing 737-800
UNCOMMON50 ptsNot every day. Worth looking up for.e.g. Boeing 757-200
RARE250 ptsA good day. Military and the unusual.e.g. Boeing C-17 Globemaster III
LEGENDARY1,000 ptsThe ones spotters plan trips around.e.g. Boeing B-52 Stratofortress
GHOST100 ptsA signal with no name. Identify it.

How points add up

  • New types pay the most. Catching a type you already have still scores, just less.
  • Near you counts double. Catch something in your own sky and it’s worth twice what the same catch is worth while exploring somewhere else.
  • LOCK ON is worth five times. Point your camera at the aircraft overhead; when Bogey verifies the photo, the catch scores ×5.
  • One aircraft, once a day. Catching the same aircraft again within 24 hours doesn’t score.

Ghosts are signals with no name: an aircraft broadcasting where it is but not what it is. They still count, and each new one pays 100 points. See the rarest planes you can still see for the LEGENDARY list.

Keep coming back

The collection

  • Your hangar holds every type you’ve caught. Chase the whole catalog, or complete an airline’s fleet.
  • Streaks count the days in a row you’ve caught something.
  • Daily missions give everyone the same three targets each day.
  • Patches mark milestones along the way.
  • Bogey of the Day is one aircraft worth hunting, picked every day.
  • The leaderboard ranks everyone by points. Volume counts: every catch earns.

Quick answers

Is Bogey free?

Yes. Bogey is free to download on iPhone and Android, and the whole game is free: the live map, the cards, catching, points, your collection and the leaderboard. Bogey Pro is an optional subscription for people who want the whole world and more alerts.

Does Bogey have ads?

No. There are no ads in Bogey, and Bogey never sells your data.

How much is Bogey Pro?

Your app store shows the price before you buy, monthly or yearly. Pro is billed through the App Store or Google Play, and you can cancel any time in your store settings.

Where does Bogey's flight data come from?

From ADS-B, the radio signal aircraft broadcast with their position. Bogey uses open data from adsb.lol, a network of volunteer receivers, under the Open Database License.

Why can't I see a plane that's right above me?

Not every aircraft broadcasts ADS-B. Many military aircraft fly without it, and some small planes only show up near a receiver. When a signal won't say what it is, Bogey shows it as a ghost.

Does Bogey use my location?

Only while the app is open, to show the sky around you. Bogey doesn't follow your location in the background and doesn't sell it.
