The Last DC-8
The last DC-8 known to be flying: a 1970 jetliner still hauling freight
Tail number OB-2231-P
The story
Very likely the last Douglas DC-8 still flying anywhere. She rolled out of Long Beach as a stretched DC-8-63 for Air Canada in 1970, was re-engined with CFM56 fans, and hauled parcels for DHL and ASTAR before SkyBus Jet Cargo took her on. Today she flies freight out of Miami to the Caribbean: a first-generation jetliner still doing the job she was built for.
When Air Canada took delivery of her in February 1970, the first Moon landing was seven months old.
